Objectives: This study explored the experiences of medical students enrolled in an elective course titled "Healthcare Innovation and Women's Ventures II" at Ewha Womans University College of Medicine. The research questions were as follows: First, what motivated medical students to participate in the experiential entrepreneurship course? Second, what experiences did the students have during the course? Third, what changes did the students undergo as a result of the course?

Methods: Focus group interviews were conducted with six medical students who participated in the experiential entrepreneurship course from February 13 to 23, 2024.

Results: The analysis identified three domains, seven categories, and 17 subcategories. In terms of motivations for enrolling in the experiential entrepreneurship course, two categories were identified: "existing interest" and "new exploration." With respect to the experiences gained from the course, three categories emerged: "cognitive experiences," "emotional experiences," and "behavioral experiences." Finally, two categories were identified concerning the changes participants experienced through the course: "changes related to entrepreneurship" and "changes related to career paths."

Conclusion: Students were motivated to enroll in this course by both their existing interests and their desire to explore new areas. Following the course, they underwent cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. Their perceptions of entrepreneurship and career paths were significantly altered. This study is important because it explores the impact of entrepreneurship education in medical schools from the students' perspective.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.12771/emj.1996.19.1.79
Objective

There are several types of research methodology in the medical research papers. Each of these research methodologies establish their proper purposes in the medical resarches. This study was performed to examine the frequencies and types of research methodologiy for the purpose of providing the prospective aspects.

Method

We reviewed 765 research papers in the Ewha Medical Journal, from 1978 to 1995. The research paper were included all kinds of papers in the Ewha Medical Journal such as review articles, oiginal articles, case reviews and so on. And we classified the research metho-dologies into case study, clinical trial, observational study, experimetal study and study for di-agnostic methods.

Results

Case study was most commonly used study design(332 papers,43.4%), followed by experimental study(185 papers, 24.2%). In the 1970s, case report(44.1%) was the most com-monly used study design and enxt was experimental study(17.7%). In the 1980s, also the most commonly used study design was case report(48.7%) and experimental study(24.9%) was mark-edly increased than 1970s. Not only the experimental study(24.8%)but also clinical trial(16.1%)was outstandingly increased in the 1990s. Especially experimental study and clinical trial in the clinical research papers were increased more and more to the 1990s. The most common paper volume was December(35.9%)in the Ewha Medical Journal. The differences of research metho-dology among basic science, medical part and surgical part were significant(p<0.01).

Conclusion

The authors suggested that the Ewha Medical Journal have been changed in the aspects of methodology, but have more qualitative arguementations on research metho-dology which are indispensable activities of prospective the Ewha Medical Journal.

Eun Hee Ha, Kyu Ryong Choi
Ihwa Ŭidae chi 1995;18(4):343-356.   Published online July 24, 2015
DOI: https://doi.org/10.12771/emj.1995.18.4.343

Over the past 17 years, the number of medical research papers in the Ewha Medical Journalhas increased. And the use of statistics to evaluate experimental and clinical research data has increased. We observed statistical methods used in 730 articles from the Ewha Medical Journalfor a 17 year period(from 1978 to 1995). The most commonly used method was measurementof central tendency with t-test, χ2-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and regression analysis(74.8%). The second most common method was χ2-test with t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation(9.2%), fo11owed by epidemiological statistics(7.6%).

The observed errors of statistical method in 314 original aricles were 585 spells(repeat No./paper).

The most common error was that of no significant value and confidence interval(18.4%), followed by misuse of SE instead of SD(15.5%).

Misuses of applicating statistical method included the use of the t-test instead of ANOVA incomparing three groups(0.2%) and the use of the student t-test instead of paired t-test and vice versa.

Eun Hee Ha, Hyesook Park, Young Ju Kim
Ihwa Ŭidae chi 2003;26(2):169-177.   Published online June 30, 2003
DOI: https://doi.org/10.12771/emj.2003.26.2.169
Objectives

The purpose of this study is to deliver effective worksite health management by specifying job of occupational physician, occupational nurse, occupational hygienist and making job reference manual and health performance audit. Therefore, We can contribute to disease prevention and health promotion of workers by enhancing quality of worksite health management.

Method

The methodology of making performance audit is comprised of developing audit questions and weighting the questions. Measures are made by scoring the values. The questionnaires were grouped by the categories and sections. This occupational audit was distributed to the health personnel of 350 workplaces by mail. The self-administered results were returned and analyzed.

Results

We plot the field of occupational health service by basic policy, preventive health service, health care, administration, and other services. We gave the weight A on the primary job, B on the supplementary job, and C on the minor job. This weight was made through the delphi procedures where 30 specialists joined. Basic policy got score of 16.1% preventive health service got 36.5%, health care 20.4%, administration 10.9%, and other services 10.1%. Further weightings on the questionnaire sections were made through the survey on specialists and final weighting on each questionnaire was made by making formula considering weights of each stage. The audit was composed of 96 questions which has dichotomos scales and full score was 1,000. Person-nels from 80 workplaces (23%) replied the audit and the scores of physicians, nurses, and hygienists were 608.6, 587.1 and 535.4, respectively, all a little higher than 500.

Discussion

The health performance audit can be used by the sorksite health personnels providing health service. However, this work would not be complete without further comprehe-sion and application in the real settings.

Ihwa Ŭidae chi 1999;22(2):145-153.   Published online June 30, 1999
DOI: https://doi.org/10.12771/emj.1999.22.2.145
Objectives

This study was designed to develop the referral system of patient in small-sized industries and the medical delivery system in occupational health field.

Methods

We sampled randomly 5 workers per each company in 57 companies and investigated the healthcare utilization behavior, the need for referral system. The survey was done from April 1. 1998 to May 30. 1998 and the respondents were 213. On the basis of the results, we planned model for the referral system between Korean Industrial Health Association(KIHA) and Ewha Medical Center(EMC).

Results

The complaints of the utilization of medical service are cumbersome process of registration and reservation, and discord between hours of duty and consultation. The referral system is needed in 76.7% of total respondents. 85.6% of workers want the night clinic, and 91.3% want to be included their family in this referral system.

We developed the referral system linking KIHA, EMC, and department of preventive medicine of Ewha Woman's University, which based on the result of survey. The service reflect the worker's the healthcare utilization behavior and need for referral system. The number of workers who referred by this system between Feb. 1998 and Jan. 1999 was 30, and replied by EMC after treating was 12. The number of referred patient is very law(30 spells), but the satisfaction of medical service is relatively high.

Conclusion

To promote the referral system, it is needed to propaganda the service of referral system to workers and managers of each company, to improve of quality of services of the hospital, and to establish the official referral system between department of preventive medicine of Ewha woman's university and each clinical department of Ewha Medical Center.
